The two-shot method, step by step

  1. Dress the mannequin. Steam the garment, centre the placket and buttons, align the shoulder seams, and clip excess fabric at the back so the front reads as a natural fit.
  2. Shoot frame A — the garment. Locked-off tripod, product filling the frame, consistent white or light grey background. Do not move the camera after this.
  3. Shoot frame B — the inside neck. Turn the garment inside out over the mannequin, or lay it flat, and photograph the inside back of the collar under the same lighting. Some shooters instead remove the mannequin's neck plate and shoot the garment from behind.
  4. Optional frame C — sleeves and hems. If cuffs or the hem also need to read as hollow, shoot the inside detail of those too.
  5. Repeat per size and colourway only if the garment actually looks different; otherwise recolour in editing.

Compositing it

  1. Open frame A, select the garment and mask out the mannequin.
  2. Bring frame B in as a layer behind the garment layer and position the inside-neck detail so it fills the opening.
  3. Erase the mannequin edges, then rebuild the neckline opening so the fabric thickness reads correctly.
  4. Repeat inside cuffs and hems if needed.
  5. Clean up: remove clips and pins, even out the background to a consistent white, and gently balance the shadows so the garment still looks three-dimensional.
