Product Image Sizes for Every Marketplace (2026)
Every marketplace wants a slightly different file. Here is the one master size that feeds them all, plus a per-platform table of ratios, minimums and limits.
Every marketplace wants a slightly different file, and the difference between "accepted" and "rejected" is often 200 pixels. This guide is the product image sizes cheat sheet we keep open when launching a catalogue across channels — one table per platform, plus the single master file that feeds all of them.
The short version: shoot and store one 2000 x 2000 px square sRGB master per shot, and export downward per channel. Never upscale, never edit the export — always go back to the master.
The one-size-fits-most answer
If you remember nothing else:
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Ratio | 1:1 square | Fills marketplace grids without cropping |
| Resolution | 2000 x 2000 px | Meets or beats every recommended size |
| Colour | sRGB | The web standard; CMYK shifts colour on upload |
| Format | JPEG (PNG for transparency) | Universally accepted, small files |
| Quality | 80–90 | Visually lossless, roughly half the file size of 100 |
| Background | Pure white for the main image | Passes review everywhere; safe default |
That single file is compliant on Amazon, Shopify, eBay, Etsy, Walmart, Temu, TikTok Shop, and Google Shopping. Everything below is the per-platform detail you need when a category or a limit bites.
The cheat sheet
| Platform | Ratio | Minimum | Recommended | Max file / size | Main-image background |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon | 1:1 (flexible) | 500 px longest side | 1600–2000 px longest side | 10000 px | Pure white (RGB 255, 255, 255) |
| Shopify | 1:1 | — | 2048 x 2048 px | 4472 x 4472 px, 20 MB | Your choice; white converts |
| eBay | 1:1 | 500 px longest side | 1600 px longest side | 12 MB | White or very light |
| Etsy | 1:1 (4:3 also shown) | 1000 px | 2000 px shortest side | ~1 MB per file | Styled or white |
| Walmart | 1:1 | 1000 x 1000 px | 2000 x 2000 px | 5 MB | Pure white |
| Temu | 1:1 | 800 x 800 px | 1340 x 1340 px+ | — | White or clean light |
| TikTok Shop | 1:1 | 600 x 600 px | 800 x 800 px+ | 5 MB | Clean white or light |
| Google Shopping | 1:1 preferred | 100 x 100 px (250 px apparel) | 800 x 800 px+ | 16 MB | White, no promo text |
Platforms revise these specs, and category exceptions exist (apparel, media, jewellery and hazmat categories often differ). Treat the seller documentation as the authority before any bulk upload.
Amazon
1600 px on the longest side is the number that matters — it turns on zoom, and zoom correlates with conversion. The main image also needs a pure white background with the product filling about 85% of the frame. Full rules in our Amazon product image requirements and the Amazon image size and resolution guide.
Shopify
Shopify is the most permissive of the group, which is exactly why stores get inconsistent. Pick one ratio for the whole catalogue and stick to it — mismatched ratios make a collection page look amateur before a shopper reads a single word. See the Shopify product image size and dimensions guide.
eBay, Etsy, and Walmart
eBay's 500 px minimum is a floor, not a target: 1600 px enables zoom and is what buyers expect. Etsy is the odd one out with a file size ceiling around 1 MB, so compress carefully rather than shrinking dimensions. Walmart is the strictest on the main image — 1000 px minimum, pure white, product-only. Ads and social sizes
Your ad creative comes from the same master file, cropped — never stretched.
| Placement | Ratio | Size |
|---|---|---|
| Meta feed | 1:1 | 1080 x 1080 px |
| Meta / TikTok stories & Reels | 9:16 | 1080 x 1920 px |
| Instagram portrait | 4:5 | 1080 x 1350 px |
| 2:3 | 1000 x 1500 px | |
| Google Shopping | 1:1 | 800 x 800 px+ |
Shoot with headroom so a square master survives a 9:16 crop. If your product already fills 90% of the square, a vertical crop will cut it in half. Our guide to repurposing one product photo across every channel walks through the crop order.
Format and compression
- JPEG — the default for photographs. Quality 80–90 is visually lossless at a fraction of the size.
- PNG — only when you need real transparency (logos, overlays). Photographs saved as PNG are needlessly huge.
- WebP / AVIF — excellent on your own storefront, patchy on marketplaces. Keep JPEG for uploads.
- Never re-save a JPEG repeatedly. Each save re-compresses and adds artefacts. Edit the master, export once.
On your own store, oversized files are a real conversion cost — see compressing Shopify images without losing quality.
A master-file workflow that scales
- Shoot or generate at 2000 x 2000 px square, sRGB.
- Store masters in one folder per SKU, named
sku-shot-01.jpg— descriptive names help image SEO. - Export per channel from the master; never from an export.
- Compress on export, not before.
- Re-run the whole export when a platform changes its specs — one command, not a reshoot.
Getting every size from one photo
The reason most sellers end up with mismatched, upscaled, or rejected images is simple: they only have the photos the supplier sent. Everything after that is a compromise.
With HedaAI, you upload one or more real photos and get a full set of 12 e-commerce images — 8 main and gallery shots plus 4 A+ banner images — generated at high resolution with your product's true shape, colour and labels preserved. They come out square and marketplace-ready, so the same set feeds Amazon, Shopify, eBay, Temu and TikTok Shop without a reshoot. New accounts get $2 in free credits (about two products free), then $1.00 per product; the first run is a watermarked preview, and your first payment removes watermarks and unlocks 2K HD downloads. See the examples page and pricing.
The takeaway
Stop memorising per-platform pixel counts. Keep one 2000 px square sRGB master per shot, export downward per channel, compress on export, and check the two specs that actually get enforced: the minimum resolution and the main-image background. Do that once and every new marketplace becomes a five-minute export instead of a reshoot.
